Hardware equipment upgrade in progress !
Because the requirements have changed and i am now hosting a few domains, i decided to buy a new server.
Old system :
CPU : Intel Atom 330 Dual-Core @ 1.6 GHz, with Hyperthreading
Motherboard : Intel D945GCLF2
Memory : 2 GB of DDR2
HDD : 2×500 GB Sata2 WD Blue Software RAID1
OS : Ubuntu 10.10 Server x64
I didn’t use the onboard LAN because of a hang problem when my server was hitting traffic > 7.5 MB/s. Instead i used an Intel PRO 1000 MT Desktop network card.
New system :
IBM x3250
CPU : Xeon 3050 @ 2.13 GHz, 2 MB Cache, 1066 FSB
RAM : 6 GB of RAM DDR2
HDD : 2×500 GB HDD Sata2
Raid Card : LSI SAS1064e
OS : Ubuntu 11.04 Server x64 on top of VMWare vSphere Hypervisor 4.1 Update (VMware ESXi)
Weight & Dimensions : 440 x 559 x 43 mm, 559 mm, 43 mm, 440 mm, 439.9 oz (12470 g).
Rack format : 1U
Power Supply : 351W
Video : ATI RN50
Others : CD-ROM ( I am looking for a DVD unit, it has IDE interface )
LAN : 2 x Broadcom NetExtreme Gigabit.

Hi
I have the same server and want to install ESX 4.1 but during booting ESX, I get such of message:
Loadin install.vgz………….
Booting: MBI=0x00010108, entry=0x00400256
and nothing goes after.
Did you have such of problem?

I had no such problems. But I couldn’t intall ESXi 4.0 / 4.1 when i used RAID1. Only using 1 HDD.
What RAID card do you have ?
I have LSI 1064e.

I used RAID1 but i couldn’t install ESXi 4.0 / 4.1.
I’ve changed the HDD’s but no luck. It gives me an error about writing on the volume, during install.
It only worked when using just one HDD (no RAID whatsoever).
Have you tried other HDD’s ? I used 2x 1TB Seagate SATA2 7200 RPM.
Have you tried updating the RAID’s Bios and firmware ? More info here : VMWare ESXi 5 I/O performance problem on IBM x3250
Also try another install CD, and even ESXi 4.0
