Story : My main server had to be moved to a different datacenter.
I’ve backed up my virtual machines using ghettoVCB to a NFS datastore.
I’ve copied them to another server’s internal hard-drives from the NFS datastore.
My specs : ESXi 5.1 U2
All the machines worked OK.
When i tried to do a backup i’ve encountered the following error.
2015-09-11 13:41:33 -- info: Creating Snapshot "ghettoVCB-snapshot-2015-09-11" for Box \ specified for Box -- info: ERROR: wrong DISK_BACKUP_FORMAT "thin \ specified for Box -- info: ERROR: wrong DISK_BACKUP_FORMAT "thin 2015-09-11 13:41:40 -- info: Removing snapshot from Box ... 'ead: invalid number '3 2015-09-11 13:41:40 -- info: Backup Duration: 7 Seconds 2015-09-11 13:41:40 -- info: ERROR: Unable to backup Box due to error in VMDK backup! /Box/Box-2015-09-11_13-41-27/STATUS.error: nonexistent directory
The default settings for the ghettoVCB script for DISK_BACKUP_FORMAT is thin.
My virtual machines used thin provisioning, but only until i moved them to the new server.
I’ve checked all of them and the provisioning is now Thick Provisioned Eager Zeroed.
I was sure that converting from thick provisioned eager zeroed to thin will make the script work again, or editing the DISK_BACKUP_FORMAT parameter to be eagerzeroedthick / zeroedthick or 2gbsparse.
That wasn’t the answer, it seems that Notepdad++ added some invisible characters at the end of line 1 in my config file.
That’s all.
